Canine Influenza Virus (H3N8)
Courtyard Animal Hospital is now offering and recommending the new C.I.V. H3N8 (Canine Flu) vaccine. The virus, just like the human counterpart H1N1, causes severe flu-like symptoms (fever, lethargy, loss of appetite, coughing) and in some cases can be fatal. The differnce between canine H3N8 and human H1N1 is the canine virus has only been exposed to the canine species for about 2-3 years, meaning there immune systems do not have any type of immunity to this virus, making it a very dangerous condition that can be fatal to their lives. It is recommended to initiate the 2 vaccine series at 8 weeks of age or anytime there after with a booster dose at 4 weeks and annual revaccination. All dogs should be vaccinated regardless of lifestyle to protect against this serious illness.
We offer the C.I.V. vaccine at the everyday low price of $20 and as with all vaccine visits, your pet will receive a free physical exam and a courtesy bath and nail trim! Please call today to schedule your pet's drop off time (you must schedule a drop off time to take advantage of the free bath and nail trim). If you choose not to take advantage of the bath and nail trim, we should be able to accomadate you for a quick "in-and-out" visit.
